ENETS European Center of Excellence for Neuroendocrine Tumors Marburg

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are special types of tumors that are rare and very diverse and complex in their clinical picture. Patients therefore require comprehensive and very close interdisciplinary care, which we can guarantee in our Center for Neuroendocrine Tumors. Since the end of 2009, clinics that place particular emphasis on comprehensive care for patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) have been reviewed by a commission of the European Society for Neuroendocrine Tumors (ENETS) according to a detailed catalog of requirements and, if necessary, certified as ENETS centers of excellence. The Marburg NET Center was recognized in 2011 as one of currently 14 German centers of excellence. This excellence was most recently certified to the Marburg NET Center on February 14, 2019 (certificate).

What is the Marburg NET Center?

For several decades, the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors has been a special focus of our clinic. Comprehensive care for those affected by these very heterogeneous and complex clinical pictures can be guaranteed through established interdisciplinary cooperation. The specialist disciplines involved - pathology, radiology, nuclear medicine, gastroenterology and endocrinology as well as general surgery - work closely together in both diagnostics and therapy. Other important cooperation partners are oncology, laboratory medicine, cardiology and cardiosurgery, pain therapy, psycho-oncology, social services and nutritional advice. In the interdisciplinary tumor conferences that take place twice a week, a coordinated therapy concept can be determined promptly for each patient. In addition to inpatient treatment, we offer appointments in our special outpatient clinic that takes place several times a week, and a NET expert is available for urgent questions in our weekly telephone consultation hours. We attach particular importance to the active involvement of our patients. We cooperate with the Germany-wide self-help organization Netzwerk Neuroendocrine Tumore e.V. (NeT). The Marburg regional group of the NeT e.V. network meets approximately every quarter, and each meeting begins with a short specialist presentation by a speaker from the NET center. In addition, the Marburg NET center organizes national patient events at longer intervals.
In order to develop optimal therapy strategies for these rare tumors, close cooperation with other NET centers on a national and international level is essential. Among other things, we are actively involved in the German NET Register, a comprehensive national tumor database. In 2004, the European Society for Neuroendocrine Tumors (ENETS) was founded in Frankfurt with Marburg participation.
