Since the Anneliese Pohl Psychosocial Cancer Advice Center in Marburg was founded in 2010, people with cancer and their relatives have been given expert support, guidance and information in every phase of the disease or afterwards. The range of information and advice is also available to laypeople and professional practitioners working in oncology. Since 2012, advice has also been offered in an external consultation in Schwalmstadt-Treysa.

The work of the counseling center corresponds to one of the requirements of the National Cancer Plan, which was launched in 2008, according to which everyone who is directly or indirectly affected by cancer is entitled to psycho-oncological support. The entire range of advisory services is free of charge for users, and consultations are available at short notice.

The team consists of two qualified psychologists, a social worker specializing in social counseling and an administrative assistant. All counselors have additional certified psycho-oncological training. Consultation appointments are possible by appointment by telephone (06421/166 464-0) Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The establishment of a psychosocial cancer counseling center became possible for the Hessische Krebsgesellschaft e.V. in 2010 when the Anneliese Pohl Foundation was established by the Pohl family, which was affected and has since taken over a substantial part of the financing of the cancer counseling center. In addition to the rooms made available by the city of Marburg, a further substantial part of the financing could be obtained for a limited time as part of a project funding from the German Cancer Aid.

In the catchment area of ​​the Anneliese Pohl Cancer Counseling Center in Marburg, around 5,000 people develop cancer every year. The counseling center, including its external consultation hour in Schwalmstadt-Treysa, offers these and the affected relatives a contact point where they can take advantage of free psychosocial counseling and find relief and through further help offers such as the oncological self-help groups are informed.
